Warangal:In a major development in nine persons' death case at Gorrekunta village in Telangana's Warangal district, police on Sunday arrested a person and took three into custody for their alleged involvement in the killing of nine people, on Wednesday.
According to police, the prime accused has been identified as Sanjay Kumar Yadav of Bihar.
Multiple teams were formed by Warangal police, making hectic efforts to gather evidence in the sensational case, which has proved a challenge for the investigators, police sources said.
Acting on a tip-off, the city cops initiated a probe into the incident and after four days of the crime, police took four suspected persons into custody today.
During interrogation, Sanjay Kumar Yadav reportedly confessed to his crime. The accused said that he had given a soft drink mixed with sleeping pills to all nine persons.
"Four persons including two hailing from Bihar were taken into custody in connection with the mysterious deaths. After two days of investigation revealed that Sanjay Kumar Yadav is the prime accused, who killed them," a police official said.
"The motive behind the crime is yet to be ascertained but Sanjay has confessed to his crime and we are interrogating him. We have recovered the mobile phone of one, Md Maqsood, and based on his call history, we had arrested four suspected persons," a police official added.
"The forensic teams on Sunday collected more samples as part of the investigations. The investigators have not yet reached a conclusion about the cause of the death and were waiting for results of some of the tests being done at Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL)," an official said.
Reportedly, a total of nine bodies were recovered from a well in Gorrekunta village. They were identified as Alam (55), a native of West Bengal working in gunny bag manufacturing unit in Warangal for last 20 years, his wife Nisha (48), daughter Bushra Khatoon (22), sons Shabaaz Alam (20), Sohail Alam (18) and others.
The bodies of Sriram Kumar Shah (26) and Shyam Kumar Shah (21), both natives of Bihar, and Mohammed Shakeel (40) of Tripura were also recovered from the well. They were all workers in the same gunny bag manufacturing unit.
Further investigation is underway and cops are also interrogating the other suspected persons, an official added.
