Locals oppose cremation of corona bodies in Telangana

Administrative inertia coupled with resistance by locals aggravates the miseries of the families who died of coronavirus. A few cases have come to the light in Telangana where locals have opposed the cremation of coronavirus corpses.

Hyderabad:Locals opposed the cremation of a coronavirus corpse in Telangana's Khammam district. They staged a protest when they heard that the administration was preparing to cremate the body of a coronavirus patient.

However, they agreed for the funeral after the police took initiative to make them understand the situation and that the concerned person was not a positive case, but has died due to a heart attack.

In another case, the body of a person remained in front of his house for two days after locals objected to his burial. Later, his body was shifted to his brother's house in New Lankapalli to conduct the funeral.

Speaking to media, an official said that locals fear that cremating the body could lead to the spread of the deadly virus in the area.

"A few try to mislead people that coronavirus spreads even after the death. It is scientifically proven that the virus does not spread after the death of an infected person. Hence the cremation of the body will not do any harm to the people living in a neighbourhood. The public should not panic," he said.
