Hyderabad: India created history after the Chandrayaan-3 mission made a successful soft landing on the Moon on Wednesday evening. India became just the fourth country in the world to achieve the rare feat. India joined the ranks of the United States, the erstwhile Soviet Union and China.
The Chandrayaan-3 Mission was launched on July 24 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota and it was successful in soft landing on the Moon with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) announcing that the country is on the moon.
Here are the live updates a day after India made history:
ISRO chief S Somanath spelt out the reasons on the space body chose the South Pole of the moon for Chandrayaan-3's landing. "We have gone closer to the South Pole which is 70 degrees almost. The South Pole has a specific advantage with respect to being less illuminated by the sun. There is a potential because of to have more scientific content...Scientists who are working on the moon showed a lot of interest in the South Pole because ultimately human beings want to go & create colonies and then travel beyond. So the best place is something we are looking for & the South Pole has the potential to be that," Somanath was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah visited the ISRO centre in Bengaluru and felicitated ISRO chief S Somanath for the success of Chandrayaan-3. He also met with other scientists, who were part of the prestigious mission.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar hailed ISRO scientists for the success of Chandrayaan-3. "I am very proud to see the great moment which has created history in Indian science. India has shown that it is the knowledge capital of the world. The entire team has worked for this success story. We are very proud of this great moment. We all shared the joy. The next generation will definitely take it forward," Shivakumar was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

Taking to her official handle on X, formerly Twitter, after the rover rolled out of the lander, President Murmu posted, “I once again congratulate the ISRO team and all fellow citizens for successful deployment of Pragyan-rover from inside Vikram-lander. Its rolling out a few hours after the landing of Vikram marked the success of yet another stage of Chandrayan 3.”
