Hyderabad police arrest four for stealing gold worth Rs 1 crore

A complaint was lodged after a jewelry staffer in the city misplaced the gold during a road accident. The police were able to trace the miscreants by locating the last known location of a mobile phone which was placed inside the bag which contained the gold ornaments.

Hyderabad:The Banjara Hills Police arrested four men for allegedly stealing 143 tulas of gold worth Rs 1 crore. The police were able to recover 125 tulas of gold before the thieves were able to dispose it off completely.

A complaint was lodged after a jewellery staffer in the city misplaced the gold during a road accident. The police were able to trace the miscreants by locating the last known location of a mobile phone which was place inside the bag which contained the gold ornaments.

The complaint was lodged by Ajay Kumar Agarwal on October 10. According to the complaint, Agarwal had sent a sent executive to Krishna Jewelers Pearls and Gems at Jubilee Hills to collect stock. However, on his way back the staffer who was riding a two-wheeler met with a road accident near Kangaro Kids School near Banjara hills. Due to heavy downpour, he was not quickly able to recover the bag.

Realising the fact that the accident victim has lost a bag full of gold ornaments, Niranjan, the first accused in the case launched a search singlehandedly and finally traced the bag. Niranjan who lives on the footpath at Banjara hills works as a scrap seller in the city. Further, he decided to sell the gold to meet his financial constraints and contacted other accused people in the case for help.

He contacted his son Ranjit Kumar and hatched a plan to dispose the gold. They made it to Yellammbanda to meet their relative Venkataiah who helped them hiding the gold. Later, Niranjan handed over the phone a repair shop at Jagathgirigutta. The accused sold 18 tulas gold ornaments and spent money lavishly.

The police were able to find the miscreants by tracing the location of the phone to the repair shop in Jagathgirigutta. The police used CCTV cameras to identify them.

The Hyderabad police have appealed to the public to safe keep valuables inside the vehicles and not to go out in rains unless there it is urgent.
