Fareeda Asra Tabassum said her husband and his friend, both of whom were working in Saudi Arabia, were arrested by officers at Yemen's Aden airport on January 24, when they were returning to India.
"They had been working at a mattress company in Saudi Arabia for eight years and were not being paid for the past two years," she said.
According to her, the duo, who were in financial distress due to non-payment of their salaries, went to Sana'a airport in Yemen to acquire a Visa for their return to India.
Tabassum is seeking intervention from the Ministry of External Affairs Since the airport in Sana'a is non-operational, they then moved to the Aden airport, from where the Yemeni authorities arrested them.
"They say my husband cannot be released unless there is some intervention from the Indian embassy. Hence, I request Sushma ji to help them return home," she added.
Tabassum also revealed that she had a conversation with her husband after he was detained, but officers have yet not disclosed the reason behind the arrest.
