Telangana reports one COVID case every minute

With Telangana reporting approximately one COVID positive case every minute for the past few days, the focus has now shifted out of Hyderabad. While the rate of infection has somewhat eased in Greater Hyderabad, large number of cases are being reported from tier-2 cities. The government is now making efforts to equip all districts with the necessary structure to tackle the crisis locally.

Hyderabad: The COVID-19 situation continues to remain severe in Telangana, with around 37,720 cases reported between July 1 and 25. Statistics clearly show that on an average, one person in the state gets infected every minute.

What makes the above stat particularly worrying is the fact that cases are no longer being reported only from the Greater Hyderabad region, but all districts.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has issued instructions that officials should immediately tour the districts and make efforts towards solving the local problems. Health Minister Eatela Rajender is currently touring the other districts of the state.

Earlier on Sunday, he reviewed the health services being rendered in Kamareddy and Nizamabad districts.

Though it appears that the rate of infections has abated to some extent in Greater Hyderabad and neighbouring districts, the number of cases is going up alarmingly in the other districts. In Warangal, for example, more than 100 cases are being registered per day.

The cases are rapidly rising in tier 2 towns such as Karimnagar, Nalgonda, and Nizamabad. The only relatively comforting news is that the number of cases is still not alarming in the villages.

However, the medical and health department has drawn the conclusion that the virus might even reach the villages. In a bid to ready itself for the new challenge, the Health Ministry reviewed the situation with district health officials, district and regional hospital superintendents.

The government has made arrangements for COVID treatment in district hospitals, regional hospitals and even in some social health centres. It has given instructions to the districts to provide health services locally.

The government has arranged oxygen pipelines in district hospitals. It has also given instructions to appoint doctors, nurses and other staff locally By identifying the COVID affected in advance, so that the spread of the virus can be stopped.

Further, the government is now conducting COVID-19 at hospitals in different levels along with primary health centres, with a view to identify those who are on the edge of danger and to provide them timely treatment. It also sent PPE kits, N95 masks and COVID medicines to the districts.

The Health Minister, during his district tours is specially focusing on COVID and other services in the hospitals.
