Warangal (Telangana):The first case of new COVID strain has been detected in Telangana. A 49-year-old man who arrived in the state from the UK on the 10th of this month has been diagnosed with the newly mutated virus. However, the health department officials are yet to confirm it.
According to the information, a man from Warangal was diagnosed with Covid symptoms on December 16th following which he was found positive for the news strain of the virus. He is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Warangal. Meanwhile, health department officials traced down the immediate contacts of the man and they too were tested for the virus following which his 71-year-old mother also tested positive for the virus and her samples have been sent to CCMB for analysis.
Observing that the Telangana health department is alert in the wake of the new strain of coronavirus surfacing, state Director of Public Health G Srinivasa Rao said the government is following a policy of tracing, testing and treating to prevent the spread of the virus, according to an official release on Monday.
