Jagtial (Telangana): In a heart-wrenching tale, a man from Telangana's Jagtial district has appealed to the government for financial assistance, as he is unable to take care of his two polio-afflicted sons.

Mohammad Zakir Hussain lives near the new bus stand in Korutla town of Jagtial district. He works as a constable in the Dharmapuri Excise Department.

Zakir has three children — two sons and a daughter. While his daughter is married, Hussain now takes care of his two grown-up sons.

Unfortunately, both the sons are affected by polio. The eldest of the two, Sabir Hussain is 31 years old while his younger sibling Syed Hussain is 28. The two brothers were born with polio infection.

For years, Zakir knocked on the doors of every hospital, but to no avail. Zakir and his family spent about Rs 12 lakh in the treatment of the two brothers.

While Sabir can walk with support, Syed is paralysed and bedridden. Adding to the woes, Zakir's wife got infected with acute tuberculosis, following which he had to opt for a two-year medical leave in order to look after his ailing family.

Owing to the stress, Zakir too fell ill, but still devotes all his time towards ensuring the wellbeing of his sons. He bathes and dresses his sons and assists them while taking their meals.

Despite being a caring father, Zakir's health condition is becoming increasingly fragile with old age.

While sharing his sorrows, Zakir broke into tears about their poor financial condition. Even though both his sons have differently-abled person certificates, his government job is standing in the way of their pensions.

Zakir does not even have the means to afford a tricycle or wheelchair to support Syed. He is unable to get them treated owing to financial difficulties and his own failing health.

He appealed to the government and charitable organisations to provide him with any sort of financial assistance.
