Hyderabad: A deer was found dead in the shooting range inside the campus of the Hyderabad Central University here on Thursday, police said.
The carcass of a deer was found in the shooting range Security guards noticed the carcass and informed the police.
On being informed, forest officials arrived at the spot and found the body of the deer with injuries on it.
It was initially suspected that the deer was shot dead, as the injuries on its body resembled bullet wounds.
A Chiranjeevi, the Rangareddy District Forest Range Officer later ruled out the possibility of the deer being shot. He said that the deer had possibly died while trying to escape from dogs.
Only a postmortem can reveal the cause of the death, the police added.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered and an investigation into the matter has been initiated.
The Forest Department will serve a notice to the Vice-Chancellor of the University, directing the institute to take care of animals inside the campus.
