Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao would inaugurate the 'Telangana Martyrs' Memorial - Amara Deepam' (perpetual light) here on Thursday. The memorial has been built as a tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for the cause of Telangana statehood.
The 'Amara Deepam', built near the Hussain Sagar lake here, would glow continuously as a reminder of the great sacrifice made by the 'martyrs'. The 'Amara Deepam' would glow in golden yellow colour, an official release said on Wednesday.
The state government has built the six-storeyed memorial, opposite the state secretariat, at a cost of Rs 117.50 crore, it said. The government has provided 3.29 acres of government land for the construction of the memorial.
As many as 1,600 metric tonnes of stainless steel have been used for the construction of the memorial building. In addition to several other facilities, the memorial has a museum, photo gallery, convention hall, restaurant and others.
Earlier in April, The CM inaugurated the new Secretariat complex named after BR Ambedkar, which stands 265 feet tall and is spread over an area of 10,51,676 square feet in a sprawling 28 acres. The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Secretariat on June 27, 2019, but the works started only in January 2021, delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic, court cases and other issues.
He also unveiled the 125-ft tall statue of B R Ambedkar to mark the 132nd birth anniversary of the 'architect of the Constitution'. It took at least two years to finalize technical and manufacturing measures since the decision was taken by KCR to erect the statue of Ambedkar. (PTI)
