Assembly Elections 2021 Seizures in poll season

Assam and Bengal are among the top states where a huge quantity of liquor was seized. While Tamil Nadu topped the chart in terms of cash seizure (Rs 236 crore). For precious metal, Tamil Nadu again topped the list with seizure worth Rs 176.22 crore.

Hyderabad:The Election Commission has seized unaccounted cash, liquors, narcotics and freebies including precious stones worth Rs 948 crore from the five States till third phase of polling on April 6, 2021. The amount is 4.198 times more than the total combined seizure of Rs 226 crore in 2016 Assembly polls. The seizure figure, which includes seizure of cash, liquor, narcotics, freebies etc., is more than 4.198 times higher than the total combined seizure of Rs. 225.77 Crore in general Legislative Assembly 2016. The Commission has been laying specific emphasis on inducement free elections and curbing the malaise of undue money power, liquor, freebies.

In West Bengal, the total seizure was calculated worth Rs 263.15 crore so far as compared to Rs Rs 44.33 crore in the 2016 assembly polls. This includes Rs 40.27 crore (unaccounted cash); Rs 10.28 crore (precious metal); Rs 115.89 crore ( 255 kg narcotics which include ganja, heroin, charas) and 1935455-litre liquor.

State Wise and item wise Seizure Report

The authorities have seized Rs 445.81 crore so far from Tamil Nadu as compared to Rs 130.99 crore in 2016 Assembly polls. In 2021, the EC has seized unaccounted cash worth Rs 236.51 crore; precious metal worth Rs 176.22 crore; freebies worth Rs 25.64 crore and 289618 litre liquor.

Total seizure of Rs 119.29 crore from Assam as compared to Rs 16.58 crore in 2016. As per data, 2044249 litre liquor was seized in Assam during the third phase of polls.

The total seizure in Puducherry is Rs 36.89 crore this election as compared to Rs 7.74 crore during the previous elections.

In 2021, For precious metal, Tamil Nadu again topped the list with seizure worth Rs 176.22 crore. Kerala came in second at Rs 49.21 crore.

A total of 19 Air Intelligence Units (AIU) of IT Department are also set at different stations in Assam, West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
