Hyderabad:Cutting through dense forests and hills, members of the Chenchu tribe in Telangana state have built an eight-kilometre road by themselves helped by a tribal aid agency.
Reports suggest the tribespeople had appealed to the state authorities for a road but there was no response.
The Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) visited the community in Nallamala forest during the pandemic before the tribespeople came together to build the road, which took about a month's time to complete.
Chenchu tribals build road by hand For several years, about 33 Chenchu tribal families in Nagarkurnool district risked their lives walking through tiger infested forests to get their basic essential and medical supplies.

A road to these remote places had been a requirement for a long time as the forests are home to wild animals and part of the Amrabad tiger reserve.
The ITDA sanctioned the 19-kilometre road connecting the remote villages and the tribespeople are employed in the construction under the 'Atmanirbhar mission'.
