Two businessmen carrying gold jewellery worth about Rs 1 crore died after the car in which they were travelling overturned.

Hyderabad: Two businessmen carrying gold jewellery worth about Rs 1 crore died after the car in which they were travelling overturned.

The accident occurred early Tuesday in the Peddapalli district of Telangana. According to police, the car met with the accident near Malyalapalli village on Ramagundam Rajiv Rahdari.

While two men died on the spot, two others in the car sustained critical injuries. The deceased were identified as K. Srinivas and K. Rambabu, both residents of Narsaraopet in the Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh.

The three bags in the car boot were opened and tens of packet books were found. Police initially identified the victims as gold traders. The dead and injured were identified as belonging to Narasaraopet in Guntur district.

Kotha Rambabu, a gold trader, Kotha Srinivas, his brother in law Santhosh and another man was in a car heading towards Bellampalli via Ramagundam when the accident happened.

The car rolled over and four people were trapped in it. Rambabu, who trades in gold, lost his life while locals were trying to take him out. Srinivas died on the way to the hospital.

An injured Santosh Kumar and one more passenger were admitted to a government-run hospital in Karimnagar.

Both the deceased were gold traders and used to sell gold jewellery to jewellers in Telangana. They were carrying gold jewellery worth Rs 1 crore when the accident occurred.

The staff of a 108 ambulance which rushed to the spot from Godavarikhani found the jewellery and informed the police. Ramagundam police officials praised the ambulance staff for their honesty.
