V.O.Chidambaranar Port at Tuticorin creates a new record in coal handling

V.O.Chidambaranar Port in Tuticorin has created a record in cargo handling by handling a whopping 55,020 Metric Tonnes of Coal consignment from MV Agio Sostis at the port recently. It surpassed its previous record of handling 54,512 Metric Tonnes of coal on December 11, 2018.

Tuticorin: V.O.Chidambaranar Port in Tuticorin of Tamil Nadu created a new record by discharging 55,020 Metric Tonnes of Coal in 24 hours at Berth Number 9 through Harbour Mobile Crane from the gearless vessel MV. Agio Sostis on February 3, said port authorities. With this, the port has surpassed the previous record of 54,512 Metric Tonnes of Coal handled in 24 hours at Berth Number 9 from the vessel MV. Pacific Victory on December 11, 2018.

The Liberian flagged vessel MV. Agio Sostis with an overall length of 225 metres, a beam of 32.26 metres, and arrival draft of 14.02 metres arrived at VOC Port, Tuticorin on February 3 from Port of Tarakan, Indonesia. The entire quantity of 71,500 Tonnes of coal consigned to Global Coal Ventures was discharged through Harbour Mobile Cranes operated by M/s. Imcola Crane Company Private Limited.

During this financial year 2019-20 up to February 4, 2020, the port has handled 30.22 million tonnes of cargo and 6.74 Lakh TEUs of Containers, registering an increase of 4.45 per cent and 8.28 per cent respectively when compared to the corresponding period of last year.

Port Trust Chairman T K Ramachandran while thanking all the stakeholders, officers and the employees of the Port who have contributed to achieving these records, conveyed that this Port is continuously striving to achieve improvement in performance and productivity in order to attract more volume of traffic through the Port.
