TN villagers catch crocodile strayed into locality

Villagers in a Tamil Nadu village caught a 10-foot-crocodile that strayed into their village. They initially alerted the forest department but as the department officials did not arrive in time, they captured the reptile tying it to a pole till the forest officials arrived.

Mannargudi (Tamil Nadu):The villagers in Tamil Nadu caught a 10-foot-long crocodile by themselves after forest officials turned up late to capture the reptile.

The huge crocodile from Kollidam river has strayed into Sithamalli village in Mannargudi taluk of Tiruvarur district of Tamil Nadu. After spotting the crocodile, the villagers alerted forest officials.

As they have not arrived in time, youngsters from the village caught the crocodile using ropes. The reptile was then tied to a pole and villagers also poured water on the reptile to keep it hydrated.

Meanwhile, the forest officials from Sirkazhi and Mayiladuthurai divisions have arrived after four hours. The forest team led by Wildlife Officer Kumaresan tied the crocodile and covered its head before transporting it.

Villagers said that Kollidam river banks are infested with so many huge crocodiles posing danger to man and domestic animals. They urged forest officials to capture them and transport them to crocodile parks.
