TN: Pregnant woman burnt alive by mother-in-law, dies

A pregnant woman who was burnt alive by his mother-in-law has died on Tuesday in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu. The mother-in-law used to torture Sangheeta for dowry. The heinous crime took place on April 4 and the victim died while undergoing treatment in a hospital.

Thanjavur: In a horrifying incident, a pregnant woman who was burnt alive by his mother-in-law has died on Tuesday, police said. The incident happened in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu on April 4.

Sangeetha, who hails from a poor family, endured all the atrocities and hid her sufferings without sharing anything to her family.

Few days after the marriage, the mother-in-law Pushpavalli and her family started harassing Sangeetha for dowry, police informed.

After five months of marriage, Sangeetha got pregnant. Soon after her mother-in-law got to know about his pregnancy, she along with her family member Thilakarajan started threatening Sangeetha.

On April 4, Pushpavalli told Sangheeta, that you and your baby should not be alive, and attempted to burn her alive.

Sangeetha was rescued by her husband and neighbours and taken to Tanjore Medical College Hospital for treatment.

Sangeeta gave birth to a baby boy with surgery a few days after the massive burn, doctors said. Presently, the newborn baby is in critical condition and Sangheeta has died while undergoing treatment.

The Thanjavur police filed a complaint and arrested the mother-in-law Pushpavalli. Further investigation into the matter is on.
