TN: Brother kills sister for overusing mobile phone

A 20-year-old man attacked her 17-year-old sister with a sickle in Tamil Nadu's Thoothukudi district. The girl died on spot due to excessive blood loss.

Thoothukudi:A 17-year-old girl was killed by her brother in Tamil Nadu's Thoothukudi district on Tuesday after they landed into a heated argument over excessive use of mobile phone, police said. The incident took place in Vasavappapuram village near Vallanad.

According to family members, Kavita, a class 12th student, was exposed to the overuse of mobile phone for the past few months. She used to indulge in playing games online and was addicted to Facebook and WhatsApp. Her brother Malairaja (20) was irritated with her resistant behaviour and he often used to scold her.

On Tuesday evening, they landed into a dispute and enraged Malairaja attacked Kavita with a sickle. The girl died on spot due to excessive blood loss.

On getting informed, Murappanadu police reached the crime spot and sent the body to the government hospital for autopsy. A case has been registered and a hunt has been launched to nab Malairaja, who escaped into the forest.
