Tumakuru (Karnataka):A destitute woman from Tamil Nadu allegedly denied admission at a hospital here where she was taken to after developing labour pain, died with her twin newborn babies on Thursday. Locals held the doctors responsible for the incident. Taking a strong view of the incident, the district health officer (DHO) Dr Manjunatha D N recommended the suspension of the duty doctor.
After an investigation of the incident, three hospital staff were suspended from the hospital on Thursday.
Kasturi (30), a resident of Bharati Nagar was rushed to the hospital after Kasturi developed labour pain on Wednesday evening but the doctors and the hospital staff refused to admit her, saying that she does not have an aadhaar card or a 'Maternity Card' and sent her home, the locals alleged. The duty doctor told her that she would write a slip referring her to the Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru.
On Thursday morning, the locals rushed to Kasturi's house after they heard her screaming for help by the time the locals reached her house, Kasturi had delivered one baby who later died and she and an unborn were found dead soaked in a pool of blood.
