Salem (Tamil Nadu):Following continuous harassment from others from their community, three transgenders on Wednesday tried committing suicide in front of the Salem Collector's Office, demanding action against their abusers.
Transgender Niranjana (24), Pragati (23) and Ramya (33) who live in a rental house in Meyyanur area, Salem in a complaint to the police said that some other transgender people often abuse and extort money from them.
The trio had come to the Commissioner's office of Wednesday to file a complaint and while doing so, one of them consumed sleeping pills they had been carrying secretly.

Due to the overdose, they fainted and were taken to the Salem Government Hospital for treatment.
After the incident, DCP Senthil and Chandrasekaran assured the trio that appropriate protection will then be provided and action would be taken against other transgender people who threaten them.
However, on Thursday more than hundred transgender people gathered at the Pallappatti police station complaining against the trio stating that they have strong links with local rowdies and often threaten others to kill them.
As the ruckus continued, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) reached the spot and assured them that appropriate action would be taken against those who made death threats.
