Tiruvallur: A 19-year-old woman allegedly killed her 24-year-old relative by stabbing him multiple times with a knife after he allegedly tried to rape her.
The incident took place at Sholavaram in Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu and the man has been identified as S Ajithkumar.
According to the reports, the Police have sought legal opinion and are treating the woman's reaction as an act of self-defence for now.
The woman had gone in a poorly-lit area surrounded by bushes to relieve herself when Ajithkumar had tried to sexually assault her, said the police.
At knifepoint, Ajithkumar held her and attempted to sexually assault her. The woman pleaded him to let her go, but he started undressing her. The woman pushed him and Ajithkumar, who was in a state of inebriation, had fallen off. The woman had then picked the knife and stabbed him and ran away," the police said.
The woman had then approached the police and narrated the whole incident. The police had then visited the area and sent Ajith’s body for the autopsy.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, Superintendent of Police A Aravindan said the case has been altered to section 106 IPC (Right of private defence against deadly assault) from section 302 IPC (Punishment for murder).
Ajithkumar, who had two children, has separated from his wife following a domestic dispute. He was a jobless alcoholic and had theft cases pending against him, the police added.
