Tamil weaver pays unusual tribute to MS Dhoni

Appusamy, a handloom worker in Tamil Nadu is well known for weaving blankets with images of celebrities. This diehard fan of MS Dhoni in his latest work created a blanket with a stunning image of the star player as his tribute.

Erode: When Indian cricketer MS Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket on August 15, millions took to various social media platforms to share their reactions. Some shared heartfelt notes, others posted their favourite memories.

Appusamy, a weaver in Tamil Nadu who is a diehard fan of the former skipper offered an unusual tribute. He weaved a blanket with a stunning image of Dhoni with the words 'Thala' which means head or leader in Tamil. The Chennai Super Kings star is affectionately called by this name across Tamil Nadu.

"I am paying tribute to the former Indian captain by designing a blanket engraved with the image of Dhoni, who is playing with her daughter Ziva. I have taken 15 days to design this blanket and I want to give this blanket to Dhoni," said Appusamy who works in Erode district.

"Jersey number 7 was not just a number but an emotion the country is going to miss. He remains the only captain to have won all three major ICC trophies as captain and will be remembered forever for his shrewd leadership, magnificent wicket-keeping skills and reliable finishing abilities," he said.

However, the veteran wicketkeeper-batsman will be in action with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the upcoming 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in UAE.
