Tamil Nadu student ends life after failing to cope up with online classes

A student from Tamil Nadu committed suicide on Wednesday. Police revealed that the 15-year-old class 10 student was depressed because she couldn't cope up with her online classes.

Chennai: A 15-year-old student from Sivaganga district of Tamil Nadu was found hanging in her home on Wednesday after she failed to cope up with the online classes, an official said.

The deceased has been identified as Subhiksha, who was a student of class 10. Her school teachers said that she was a bright student and had received many prizes in various speech and essay writing competitions, including one award from the Chief Minister (E K Palaniswami).

However, her parents revealed that Subhiksha was not being able to cope up with the online class.

"She loved going to school and attending classes but because of the pandemic, she was forced to stay back at home. She was in a way compelled to get used to a new method of learning," her parents said.

Initial investigation revealed that owing to her study-related issues she was depressed and was also apprehensive of getting fewer marks in class 10 board exams.

Tiruppuvanam police have registered a case and further probe is underway.
