Chennai:In a warm gesture, Tamil Nadu governor R. N. Ravi threw open the guest block of the Raj Bhavan, usually reserved for the President, Vice-President, governors, and former governors, for a student who had topped in the recently held Class XII examinations.
Sabreen Imana from Kadayanallur in Tenkasi district, who secured 590/600 and a state rank, was hosted at the Raj Bhavan guest house along with her family members. When Raj Bhavan officials pointed out to Governor Ravi that individuals were not allowed to stay in the guest house, he felt there was no problem in relaxing the rules for a student from an economically poor background, who had secured a state rank, while studying in Tamil medium.
S S Ameen, the headmaster of Hidayathul Islam higher secondary school, where Sabreen Imana studied, said the family received a call from the Raj Bhavan, offering to bear the expenses of their visit to Chennai. As her father was unwell, Imana was accompanied by her mother and uncle. Later, the governor took part in a motivational interaction with toppers of the Class 12 examination at the Raj Bhavan on Wednesday, where the outstanding performers were welcomed along with their families.
Student Sabreen Imana said "I met the Governor at the Raj Bhavan and he gave me a lot of advice. I am very happy and very thankful to him," she said. The results of the class 12 Tamil Nadu Board exams were declared on May 8. Girls outshined boys with a higher pass percentage as 96.4% of them passed the examination, compared to 87.79% of boys.
