COVID positive DMK Lok Sabha MP Kanimozhi casts vote in Chennai
DMK Lok Sabha MP Kanimozhi, who is being treated for COVID-19, on Tuesday, voted at a polling station here by wearing the Personal Protective Equipment kit. Also, a number of others being treated for the virus voted here and in other parts of Tamil Nadu.
Kanimozhi, also DMK's women's wing secretary, arrived in an ambulance from the hospital where she is being treated for the infection and voted with the PPE kit on. She had tested positive for the virus on April 3.
Ahead of the arrival of people infected with the coronavirus, all personnel in polling stations donned the PPE kits and facilitated their voting.
The premises were sanitised later.

TN senior citizen dies before voting
A senior citizen collapsed and died near a polling booth in Thanjavur district where he was going to cast his vote in the Tamil Nadu Assembly election on Tuesday, a poll official said. The 61-year-old man, whose name was not revealed, was on his way to the polling booth near his residence in Papanasam constituency, but a few metres away, he swooned and fell down. People nearby gave him water and he was taken to the hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

Kamal alleged BJP candidate of bribing the voters
Actor turned politician Kamal on Thursday alleged that the BJP has been handing out cash in exchange for votes. In a complaint to the Returning Officer of Coimbatore South Constituency where he is contesting, the actor said that he has evidence to prove the electoral malpractice. He explained that in ward number 84 of the Kempatti colony, people were handed chits with the words ‘For Sri Ganapathy Agencies’ printed on them. These chits could be exchanged for cash, he alleged in the complaint.

Polling begins for single-phase Assembly polls in Tamil Nadu
Chennai: Tamil Nadu goes in for single-phase Assembly polls on Tuesday and it will be for the first time in history that the state goes to vote in the absence of star leaders J Jayalalitha and M Karunanidhi.
Polling across 234 assembly constituencies in 38 districts of the state will begin at 7 am. A total of 3,998 candidates are in the poll fray. In view of COVID-19, the number of polling stations has been increased to 88,937.
The state is set to see a head-to-head battle in nearly 130 constituencies is between the two arch-rivals - the ruling AIADMK and MK Stalin-led DMK, which has been out of power since 2011.
AIADMK is contesting the poll in a pre-poll alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Paattali Makkal Katchi (PMK). PMK and BJP are contesting in 23 and 20 constituencies respectively in the 234-member Tamil Nadu assembly while the AIADMK has fielded its candidates for the rest of the seats.
