Chennai (Tamil Nadu):The murder of the Chennai girl Sathya has wrecked her entire family with her father committing suicide after her death, and her mother left diagnosed with cancer. The 20-year-old was killed by her alleged lover Sathish who pushed her in front of a moving train on Thursday afternoon at the St Thomas Mount railway station.

The accused, identified as Sathish, was arrested later in the night after 7 special forces were deployed to nab him. As informed by the police, the accused was in a relationship with the victim for the past few years. On Thursday afternoon, enraged by a minor fight between the two, Sathish pushed her in front of a moving train and killed her. He immediately fled the spot thereafter.

Hearing about the sudden death of his daughter, Sathya's father Manickam -- an employee in a private company -- consumed poison and took his own life. His body is currently at a hospital, sent for post-mortem. The two deaths have added to the misery of Ramalakshmi, who is now left alone after losing her daughter and husband to such tragic deaths. Moreover, the woman -- who is a police constable by profession -- has been undergoing cancer treatment for the past few months, leaving her in an even more financially and emotionally vulnerable situation.

Meanwhile, the relatives of the deceased said that Sathya had approached the police at least thrice before her death to complain about Sathish's misdemeanour. In fact, Sathish has been arrested once before for physically harming Sathya about two months ago. He was booked under section 75 of the Indian Penal Code and sent away after negotiations. He had also gotten into a physical argument with her family members, but the matter was pacified via police officials in presence of the families of both of them.

The relatives have also blamed the police for negligence in the matter, especially noting that the father of the culprit is also a retired police official. The extended family members of the deceased and other locals have offered their condolences and sympathies to the surviving woman for her loss. Chennai Police Commissioner Shankar Jiwal paid a personal visit to the bereaved woman and ensured her justice. The accused is currently in police custody while the matter is being investigated further by the Tambaram Railway Police Department.
