Chennai: A Class 12 girl from Tamil Nadu's Karur district died by suicide on Friday. The girl's body was found hanging at her home on Friday evening.
A suicide note left behind by the deceased in her personal diary, mentions that the girl was a victim of sexual harassment, but does not name any culprits. The victim's mother had filed a complaint yesterday evening but the police failed to take action against the sexual harassment allegations.
Later, she met Superintendent of Police for Karur district Sundara Vadivel, who assured her that action will be taken against police personnel who failed to act on her complaint.
In the meantime, the suicide note has been recovered by the police and an inquiry has been launched into the girl's school over the sexual harassment allegations. The Cybercrime police have also started an inquiry into the WhatsApp chats of the girl.
Last week, a 17-year-old girl schoolgirl from Coimbatore killed herself due to sexual harassment by her teacher. The accused teacher and the school Principal were arrested under the POCSO Act.
A suicide note, reportedly written by the girl, mentioned the involvement of two more people, including the principal of the school in which she studied. The note said no action was taken by the school authority even after reporting the matter.
