New Delhi: The Supreme Court today extended the parole of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's assassin, AG Perarivalan, for his medical treatment and made it clear that this is the last extension that they are granting to him. In last hearing on 23rd November, the court had given him an extension of one week of his parole. The court today also directed the Tamil Nadu government to ensure that he is escorted to CMC Vellore for any medical treatment needed.

The bench comprising of Justice L Nageswara Rao and Justice S Ravindra Bhat gave its order of Perarivalan appeal for an extension of his parole.

His counsel sought for extension of 4 weeks as there is 25% blockage in his kidney. They wanted 3 months but that would be too much so sought a reasonable extension of time. The court suggested that they should ask the government for it.

Tamil Nadu state told the court that Perarivalan has been given parole for 51 days where only 30 days are allowed in 2 years. Moreover, he wants to go to a hospital which is 200 kms far instead of the one which is just 25 kms away.

Perarvilan's parole was supposed to end on 30th November which is now extended by one more week.
