TN government has filed a review plea in SC against the Madras HC's order which quashed the Goondas Act against the accused in the Pollachi sexual assault case.

Plea files in SC to revisit Madras HC's order on Goondas Act

New Delhi:The Tamil Nadu government filed a petition in the Supreme Court (SC) against the Madras High Court's order which quashed the Goondas Act in the Pollachi sexual assault case.

Following a case where many women were lured into sexual relationships and later got blackmailed in Tamil Nadu's Pollachi, the Madras High Court on November, last year quashed the Goondas Act invoked against the accused.

The case has been filed on February 24, 2019, by a Pollachi woman in which she alleged of four men named Thirunavukkarasu, Sathish, Sabariranjan and Vasanthakumar sexually assaulted her in a car under the pretext of a friendly meeting on February 12.

Based on the woman's complaint, on 24th February 2019, police arrested Sabariranjan, Vasanthakumar and Sathish, while on March 5, Thirunavukkarasu was apprehended.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the accused allegedly made a video of the act. Later, the accused used that video to extort money from the victim.

However, due to the allegation of police inaction, the case was transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) which filed the first charge sheet in the case.

During the trial, The Madras High Court in November last year quashed the Goondas Act invoked against the main accused Thirunavukkarasu and other accused.
