Not against paying tax, actor Vijay tells Madras HC

While dismissing Vijay's petition seeking a waiver on the entry fee imposed by the tax authorities on a 'Rolls Royce Ghost' car the actor imported from England in 2012, Justice SM Subramanian had rapped the actor, saying that the actors portraying themselves as champions of social justice should 'act as real heroes in their lives.' The judge also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the actor.

Chennai: Actor Vijay's petition seeking removal of 'unwanted' remarks made by a single judge, claimed to be portraying the Kollywood filmstar in a bad light, came up for hearing before the Division Bench comprising, Justices Duraiswamy and R Hemalatha in Madras High Court today.

The court has stayed the single Judge's order imposing a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the actor and making certain adverse remarks against him.

Vijay's counsel senior advocate Vijay Narayan, former Tamil Nadu Advocate-General, submitted that the remarks related to the professional life of the actor were unwanted and have caused trauma to the actor.

Contending the judgement, Vijay's counsel today submitted in the court that the actor was willing to pay the tax, though he was aggrieved by the remarks made by the Judge.

Admitting the submissions, the Bench granted an interim stay over the single Bench order imposing fine and directed the actor to pay the tax due in a week's time.
