Chennai: It is expected that "Nivar" cyclonic storm will cause heavy rains across the coastal districts on the 24th November and make landfall on the coast near Pondicherry on the evening of the November 25. The India Meteorological Department said Wind speed is expected up to 120 kilometres per hour.
Tamilnadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami today evening issued various orders to the concerned department heads and district collectors to take the necessary precautionary measures.
The rescue team, which includes officials from Revenue, Local administration, Fire, Highways, Electricity Board, Health dept and other departments should go to the spots which could affect due to the cyclone.
People in low lying areas and families living in unprotected houses should be taken to relief camps immediately as a precautionary measure. Relief camps should contain adequate drinking water facility, food, hand sanitizers along with other necessary items.
As a precautionary measure, bus services in Pudukottai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Cuddalore, Villupuram and Chengalpattu districts will be suspended from 1.00 pm on 24.11.2020 till further orders. People should also avoid travelling with their own vehicles other than essential needs. Fishermen also have been advised to stay away from the sea.
The water capacity of large lakes should be monitored regularly. Field inspection of all lakes and waterways should be carried out to ensure that there are no breaches.
