Madurai temple elephant tramples mahout to death

In an unfortunate incident, a mahout was trampled to death by the elephant of the Subramanya Swamy Temple in Madurai yesterday, when the man was bathing the pachyderm.

Madurai (Tamil Nadu):A mahout was trampled to death by the temple elephant of the Subramanya Swamy Temple in Tamil Nadu's Madurai on Sunday.

According to reports, the mahout, identified as Kalimuthu, was bathing the temple elephant named Deivayanai, when the elephant attacked him. Deivayanai used to perform services at the temple in the city's Thiruparangundram area.

The mahout received serious injuries and was rushed to the Rajaji General hospital in Madurai.

However, he later succumbed to his injuries.

Meanwhile, the body has been sent for postmortem.
