Madras HC dismisses plea against director Shankar

The Madras High Court has dismissed a plea by Lyca productions company, seeking to restrain director Shankar from making other movies without completing 'Indian 2'.

Chennai:The Madras High Court has dismissed a plea by Lyca productions company, seeking to restrain director Shankar from making other movies without completing Indian 2.

The filming of Indian 2, directed by Shankar and produced by Lyca productions, was put on hold. Following this, Lyca productions had moved the HC seeking director Shankar be restained from directing other films until the completion ofIndian 2.

Lyca had said that the film was initially budgeted at Rs 150 crores but the project cost has now gone up to Rs.236 crores. The production company said that only 80 per cent of the work related to the movie has been completed so far. The company also informed that Shankar was already paid Rs.32 crores and it was ready to pay the balance amount.

According to Shankar, the budget for the film was estimated at Rs 270 crores but Lyca later reduced it to Rs 250 crores which delayed the project right from the start. It was also reported that the film will be completed by October if filming resumes. After hearing arguments from both sides, Justice Satheesh dismissed the plea against the director.

Indian 2is the sequel of Kamal and Shankar's 1996 blockbuster Tamil movie Indian. It's noteworthy that the film was stalled after the crane accident on the set of the film last year and further delayed due to Covid- induced lockdown.
