Court urges DMK's Stalin not to criticise TN leader

The Madras High Court has advised DMK leader MK Stalin not to use harsh language against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswamy. In a defamation case, the court said if the opposition has evidence in support of allegations it should approach the court.

Chennai:Madras High Court has advised DMK leader Stalin to stop criticizing Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswamy.

TN government has filed a defamation suit against DMK leader Stalin for criticizing Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy and the Speaker of the house.

Similarly, DMK chief Stalin had filed a case in the Madras High Court seeking the quashing of the defamation cases against him. A few days back, Madras HC had already dismissed a few defamation cases against him.

Stalin's plea came up for hearing today before Judge Satish Kumar. At that time, Stalin's harsh remarks about the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in public were brought to the attention of the judge.

Dissatisfied with Stalin's remarks, the judge said it was reprehensible for Stalin, the leader of the opposition party, who had earned the respect of millions of people, to make serious allegations about Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy.

Judge Satish Kumar also said that other political party leaders, including Stalin, are using such unnecessarily harsh remarks for their political gain.

He said, "If there is evidence to support the allegations against the Chief Minister and other Ministers, one can approach the court. Leaders should not use harsh words in the name of freedom of expression. This would create a false impression among the public."

Further, the judge said that court orders quashing defamation cases should not be taken as an approval to make unnecessary comments about Chief ministers.

The judge also said the TN leaders need to create a healthy politics and set an example for other states. He also orders to dismiss three more defamation cases against Stalin.
