Krishnagiri (Tamil Nadu): The national-wide lockdown in a bid to contain the fast-spreading coronavirus outbreak, which originated in China's Wuhan last years and killed over 2.5 lakh people worldwide, has brought down informal sectors to its knees forcing many out of business.

Rajesh Kumar, a flower vendor hailing from Anchetty of Krishnagiri district, was no exception to the brutal onslaught of lockdown which is entering its 4th phase this Sunday.

However, Rajesh found himself in even more trouble when financiers pressured him for the interest on the loan he had bought to run his now-dormant business.

Disheartened by his pathetic situation, the 24-year-old flower vendor decided to break into an ATM to meet his needs.

Early today, Rajesh sneaked into a private bank ATM located in Anthevanpalli with a crowbar and started working on it by locking the door inside.

Meanwhile, two vigilant passersby who happened to heard queer sounds coming out of the ATM immediately closed its shutters and informed the police. Since shutter was locked outside, Kumar couldn't escape.

Rajesh was caught by the police red-handed, officials say.
