CAA: Kamal Haasan expresses solidarity with agitating Madras varsity students

In order to meet with the protesting students of Madras University, MNM leader visited the varsity on Wednesday but was not allowed inside the campus. The leader said that it is his duty to meet with the students and he will keep trying to do so.

Chennai:Makkal Needhi Maiam chief Kamal Haasan on Wednesday visited the Madras University premises here and expressed solidarity with students protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act.

Haasan was, however, not allowed to enter the main campus and spoke to the agitating students from behind the main gate of the university, opposite the Marina Beach.

"I am not allowed to go inside, they say you have nothing to do with the students," he said.

He further added, "I am a high school dropout but those inside are people with great futures. Till I die, I will call myself a student, and therefore I have come here in that capacity to be their defender."

Haasan said that he will keep voicing for the students.

"I will keep voicing whether or not I have a political party, the fact that I actually have a party, it has become my duty to be here," he added.
