New Delhi: A Madurai man, stuck in the Cruise ship, has called for the Central Government to take action to rescue more than 160 Indians on the ship.

The Cruise ship from China to Japan's Yokohama Harbor has been halted for more than five days due to the fear of coronavirus.

Anbazhagan from Madurai, who works as a supervisor in the cruise ship, spoke exclusively to ETV-Bharat reporter via WhatsApp video call.

"In the beginning, we thought all was normal. But the things we hearing now about Coronavirus are absolutely shocking to us. The situation is getting worst day by day. At first, they said only 10 people were infected with Coronavirus. Then, they said 60 members were affected and now the number has raised to 120. No Indians here, are affected by Coronavirus. But if the Indian government does not take action to rescue us soon, then we might also get affected by the virus," he said.

"The crew consists of over a thousand people from 50 different countries. So far, six of them have been infected with the coronavirus. Now the Japanese government took the entire control of the cruise ship. They are trying to solve the problem as per WHO's instruction," he added.

"When a similar situation happened in China, Indians were rescued by sending Air India flights. Similarly, India must come forward to rescue all of us,” he said.

Vinay Kumar from West Bengal said, "We could find another job if we lose this one. But what if we lose our life here. The death toll is likely to increase day by day as people here are confined in one place."

"Currently, the Japanese government is helping us with food and water. But we need to survive as well. So, the Government of India should immediately intervene and try to rescue us immediately" he added.
