Hyderabad doctor pledges 350 crore to set up non-profit health-tech varsity, innovation hub

A resident of Hyderabad, Dr. Ravindranath Kancherla, has announced pledging 70 percent of his wealth amounting to over Rs 350 crore to build a world-class not-for-profit medical education, research and innovation institute in the city.

Hyderabad:Dr. Ravindranath Kancherla , a resident of Hyderabad (హైదరాబాద్) and the founder of Global Hospitals (గ్లోబల్ హాస్పిటల్) Group, has announced the pledging of 70 percent of his wealth which amounts to over Rs 350 Cr to build a world-class not-for-profit medical education, research and innovation institute in the city.

According to a release by the Foundation, Ravindranath (డాక్టర్ రవీంద్రనాథ్) is in the process of setting up Global Health Tech University & Innovation Hub (GHUIH), a non-profit organisation with significant investment that will offer latest healthcare to Indians and the world community.

GHUIH would consist of a top medical university and hospital on a global scale with multi-disciplinary research and focus on innovation. It requires over USD 100 million and over a period of seven years to establish a medical university with a 750 to 1,000 bed hospital and a health-tech innovation hub with advanced medical technology and human resources, the release read.

"GHUIH is being established in Hyderabad, India to provide a new model for sustainable development of medical infrastructure, which helps the global population by building infrastructure on philanthropic models. It also contributes to reducing load on the governments, reduces the cost of intervention through innovation, thus strives towards providing health security for all,” Dr. Ravindranath Kancherla said.

While his contribution will take care of 50 percent of capital required, many of his philanthropic friends from medical, pharmaceutical, technology and commerce fields across the globe have evinced keen interest to contribute the balance funds that are required , apart from supporting the cause with ideation and knowledge, the release added.
