Nagapattinam (TN): In his latest verbal attack against Narendra Modi, former Union Minister and Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar on Thursday hit out at the ruling BJP over the sorry state of the economy and questioned how India could trust the words of an "uneducated Prime Minister".

Speaking to reporters after registering a complaint against NTK Chief Seeman for his alleged defamatory remarks on former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's assassination in Mayiladuthurai, Aiyar said, "Post 1991, India saw a great improvement in its economy. But due to Modi government's wrong economic policy, now the country's economy is in really bad shape," he said.

Opining that the current situation of the economy was so bad that it resembled the economy during the time of the British rule, he said that India was now losing its trust on the BJP as it was destroying the economy built by the Congress.

"Even Modi government's former Chief Economic Adviser Arvind Subramanian admits our current economy is not good. When Nobel-winning economists are saying that India's economy is in a bad condition, how to believe the words of an uneducated Prime Minister," he added.

Earlier in May this year, Aiyar justified his "neech" jibe against Narendra Modi and also called him the most "foul-mouthed" Prime Minister the country has seen.
