Four killed, several injured as speeding TNSTC bus rams motorcycle Mayiladuthurai: At least four persons including the conductor of a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) bus died and 26 other persons were injured after the government bus collided with a tanker truck near Sirkazhi area of Mayiladuthurai district of Tamil Nadu, officials said on Friday. It is learnt that the TNSTC luxury bus was on way from Thiruthuraipoondi in Tiruvarur district towards Chennai when the accident took place last night.
While the bus was traveling on the Sirkazhi Bypass Road in Mayiladuthurai District near Patharakudi, the driver tried to swerve the government bus to avoid hitting an incoming two-wheeler. While trying to deflect from the two-wheeler, the driver of the bus lost control over the vehicle, which rammed into a tanker truck parked on the side of the road at high speed and also into the incoming two-wheeler.

In the road accident, the bike rider and two pillion riders were crushed under the bus and died on the spot, an official said. The deceased trio has been identified as Padmanapan, Arulraj and Balamurugan from Chidambaram Pallipadai village. Besides the trio, conductor of the bus Vijayasarathy died in the hospital while receiving treatment.
At least 26 of the 44 people traveling in the bus, including the bus driver Vijayasarathy, were seriously injured in the accident. Soon after the accident, the local fire brigade rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. The injured were shifted to Sirkazhi Government Hospital. An official said that at least 11 passengers seriously injured in the accident have been taken to Chidambaram Government Medical College Hospital for specialized treatment.
Mayiladuthurai District Superintendent of Police Nisha visited the spot and ordered an investigation into the accident. They also visited the injured persons at the hospital and enquired about their condition. Meanwhile, two fire brigades have been rushed to the spot as a safety precaution as oil is leaking from the tanker truck involved in the accident.
