Coimbatore: An elephant (Chinathambi), which was caged after a complaint was filed that it destroyed the farmlands at areas around Periyathadakkam in Coimbatore, was released on Friday evening after 132 days.

The elephant was locked up in a wooden cage at Varkala camp after the Madras High Court had ordered to inject anaesthesia to the animal on February 15.

Chinnathambi was made to do various exercises such as feeding, performing as per instructor (pagans), and obeying their command. After successfully completing these exercises, Chinnathambi was released from the cage on Friday evening. The villagers also performed special poojas before releasing Chinna Thambi from the cage.
