Chennai: Tamil Nadu Police on Sunday arrested Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) lawmaker representing Thiruporur, L. Idhayavarman, in connection with shooting at an AMMK party worker over a land dispute.
According to police, on late Saturday, Idhayavarman's father Lakshmipathi fired three rounds after he and his supporters were attacked by the AMMK party worker's friend Kumar over a land dispute.
Lakshmipathi fired at AMMK worker Thandavamurthy's car in which the assailants were escaping at Thiruporur in Chengalpattu district. The police have seized two pistols one of which was licensed to the DMK lawmaker.
It has been alleged that Thandavamurthy's friend Kumar was into real estate business and he was trying to encroach upon government land behind the DMK lawmaker's house.
