Aides of Sri Lankan drug trafficker held in Chennai

The 'Q' branch of the Tamil Nadu police arrested two gangsters - Kennedy Fernando and Chinnaya Gunasekaran in Chennai. The pair reportedly had close ties with Sri Lankan drug trafficker Sunil Gamini Fonseka who was arrested in October last year.

Chennai (Tamil Nadu): Two gangsters who reportedly had close links with Sri Lankan drug trafficker Sunil Gamini Fonseka, were arrested by the 'Q' branch of the Tamil Nadu Police in Chennai.

According to reports, the two gangsters - Kennedy Fernando and Chinnaya Gunasekaran, had close links with Fonseka.

As many as three murder cases are reportedly registered against Kenny Fernando in Sri Lanka. He was arrested by the CB-CID in 2018 and was lodged at the Puzhal jail in Chennai. Once freed from prison, he reportedly started leading a secret life in Chennai and was in close contact with Fonseka.

Similarly, Chinnaya Gunasekaran was also slapped with drug trafficking cases in the country. Once out of prison, he lived a similar secret life in Chennai. The police found that he was in close contact with the underworld and Fonseka.

According to reports, the 'Q' branch police and the intelligence bureau are currently investigating the two men at a secret location.

Sri Lankan drug trafficker Sunil Gamini Fonseka alias 'Katta' Gamini was earlier arrested from his hideout in Bengaluru by the 'Q' branch on October 13 last year.

Fonseka, who is involved in murder conspiracies, was awarded the death penalty in a drug trafficking case in Sri Lanka. He was reportedly in close contact with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and other international drug traffickers.
