Chennai youth held for sneaking into women's hostel, theft of Rs. 80,000

Sarath Kumar, a college student from Chennai was arrested on Wednesday for sneaking into a women's hostel, allegedly abusing a woman in her sleep and stealing Rs. 80,000.

Chennai (Tamil Nadu): A 21-year-old man was arrested from Tamil Nadu's Chennai on Wednesday on the charges of sneaking into a women's hostel, allegedly abusing a woman in her sleep and stealing Rs. 80,000.

Identified as Sarath Kumar, the accused is a college student and a resident of the Greenways road in the capital city.

In a video footage sourced from the CCTV camera installed on the main gate of the hostel shows Kumar entering the building at around 2 am and going upstairs and then lying on a platform outside the hostel to evade arrest.

Police said that he allegedly abused the girls in their sleep and stole Rs. 80,000 kept in the cupboard.

When the man was about to leave the room, one of the women woke up and alerted the other inmates. Later, some inmates informed the police and a police control room van rushed to the spot and nabbed him.
