Cases against anti-CAA protesters dropped: TN CM Palaniswami

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has said that cases registered against anti-CAA protesters would be dropped.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Friday said that cases registered against anti-CAA protesters would be dropped.

"The Centre passed the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2019 in Lok Sabha and it was passed in State Legislatures later. Following this, members of some organisations protested in various parts of the state. About 1,500 cases were registered against protestors during the period. These cases would be dropped," said Tamil CM Edappadi K Palaniswami, in Tenkasi.

"All other cases will be withdrawn except those involving violence during the Coronavirus period, obtaining an e-pass illegally, and preventing the police from working," he said.

"I would like to inform you that all cases other than those registered for crimes including damage to public property, obstruction of police personnel and violence are dropped," he added.
