Chennai: The preliminary post-mortem report of Tamil television actress VJ Chitra suggests that her death is a case of suicide. The postmortem was conducted in Kilpauk Medical College Hospital by two doctors in the presence of police officers on Thursday.
The actress was found dead in a hotel room in Chennai's Nazarathpet on December 9. She was 28. According to Nazrathpet police, she had checked into her hotel room in the wee hours on Wednesday after completing a shoot. Then she hung herself in the room.
Hemnath, Chitra's fiancee was also staying with her at the time of the incident. They got engaged a few months ago. The hotel staff alerted the police after her fiancee Hemnath allegedly found her body.
Hemnath reportedly claimed that Chitra told him she was going for a bath. After this, she did not come out for a very long time. So Hemnath asked the hotel staff for a duplicate key. It's then he reportedly found her hanging from a ceiling fan.
It has been found in the investigation that the actress had registered her marriage with Hemnath in October. The case is now being investigated by an RDO (Revenue Divisional Officer) as the death happened within seven years of their marriage.
Contrary to her fiancee's statement, Chitra's father gave his statement that after returning from shooting she asked Hemnath to bring a cover from the car. But when Hemnath returned to the room, he found her hanging from the ceiling fan. Chitra's father's claim created confusion among the cops. The investigation is currently underway and all angles are being explored as to what could have led to VJ Chitra's death. The whole South Indian TV industry is mourning her death.
