Accused in 7-yr old girl rape-murder thrashed by public

The accused in a rape-murder case of a 7-year old faced the fury of a group of people as he was being escorted by the police. Police managed to push him into the van and rushed out of the hospital premises where he underwent a check up.

Coimbatore: A man arrested in connection withthe rape and murder of a seven-year old girl was thrashed by asection of public at a government hospital here when he wasbrought there for medical checkup on Thursday, police said.

Santhosh Kumar faced the fury of a group of people whorained blows on his face and neck as he was being escorted bypolice to a van after completion of the check-up.

Police managed to push him into the van and rushed out ofthe hospital premises.

The people who attacked Kumar raised slogans that suchcriminals should not be allowed to go scot-free.

He was arrested on March 31 on charges of sexuallyassaulting and killing the girl of Pannimadai here a weekearlier.

According to police, Kumar had allegedly confessed tohaving raped the girl, living close to his grandmother's housein Pannimadai, before strangling her to death.
