'Aascar' Ravichandran sends legal notice to Director Shankar

Tamil film producer ‘Aascar' V Ravichandran of Aascar Film Private Limited has sent a legal notice to director Shankar claiming legal rights of the story of Tamil film "Anniyan". The development comes days after director Shankar announced his upcoming project a Bollywood remake of Tamil film Anniyan.

Chennai: Days after director Shankar announced his upcoming project a Bollywood remake of Tamil film Anniyan, the director has received a letter from the Tamil film’s producer ‘Aascar' V Ravichandran of Aascar Film Private Limited who claims to have bought the full rights of the story from Tamil writer Sujatha.

Ravichandran, in his letter, claims to hold the rights to the film’s storyline. "I had purchased the entire story rights from the writer Sujatha (alias late Rangarajan) with full payment and all relevant documents have also been available. So such adoption, remaking or copying the main plot of the movie, without my permission, is totally illegal,” he said.

He further said he had helped Shankar to regain his “lost ground” after the debacle of Boys in 2003 and asked him to stop working on the new project.

In his letter, Ravichandran also claimed that Shankar has tried to reap the accolades of his successful movie ‘Anniyan’ by associating himself and an adaptation of the Hindi version of the same. He advised not to proceed with a new project.

The new project starring Ranveer Singh is likely to begin filming around mid-2022.
