40 hurt as 4 buses crash in TN

A bus from Alangulam reportedly rammed into the one from Tirunelveli while overtaking on the Ulundurpet bypass road here. Two other buses which closely followed also rear-ended with them. Forty passengers were injured in the mishap.

Villipuram (Tamil Nadu): Forty passengers were injured when four buses piled-up on the Ulundurpet bypass road about 100 km from here, police said on Saturday.

"Two buses were from Alangulam and Tirunelveli proceeding to Chennai, while the other two buses were from Kodaikanal and Uthankudi," the police informed.

The bus from Alangulam reportedly rammed into the one from Tirunelveli while overtaking.

"The other two buses closely following them also rear-ended with them," they added.

"The 40 passengers travelling on the buses from Uthankudi and Kodaikanal were injured and the two buses suffered heavy damage," they confirmed.

Police rescued the passengers and sent them to a hospital.
