Rajasthan: People flout COVID-19 rules in the name of religion

Violating social distancing norms or lockdown measures put forward by the government, amid coronavirus outbreak, residents of Lakheri and Ramnagar village in Rajasthan's Bundi district attended a religiously gathering organised by a 'Tantrik' at a nearby temple in the name of religion.

Violating social distancing norms or lockdown measures put forward by the government after Prime Minster Narendra Modi announced 21-day lockdown following coronavirus outbreak, in the name of superstition, people from every age group gathered to take part in highly suprestitious event organised by 'Tantrik-Bhopa'.

As the crowd grew in numbers in the name of belief, Bhopa started promising to help gullible people get back their lost love, find a job, treat chronic illness, or buy a house with the help of magical chants and black magic.

India's rural population mired in superstition gets attracted to attend such events and same happened in this town of Rajasthan.

As per information recieved, the crowd grew and began beating drums keeping health concerns at bay and disobeying PM Modi's repetitive appeal to shun superstitions amid coronavirus outbreak.

According to reports, the event lasted for almost two hours until the cops of Lakheri police station reached the temple. Some people ran from the temple on seeing the police while some stayed with Bhopa in the temple.

According to police, the Tantrik has been banned from doing such gimmicks in the future and legal action will be taken against him.

A similar incident took place in Ramnagar village wherein a huge crowd was seen openly flouting social-distancing rules to watch three Tantriks display their traditional arm (swords).

Such events taking place all across the country in the name of religion are wrong. So is the administration which allows such gatherings to take place and makes no attempt to stop them.
