Udaipur: Rajasthan police's Special Operation Group (SOG), which is probing horse-trading attempts to topple Ashok Gehlot government, recovered Rs 1.25 crore from the possession of three people, who are being questioned for carrying heavy cash on Tuesday.

The seizure came after SOG received a tip-off from their sources. The eight-member team headed by SP CID (Crime branch) Vikas Sharma was informed that money was being illegally transacted from Udaipur.

Following this, in an operation conducted by SOG in Udaipur, an amount of Rs 1.25 crore was recovered from the possession of three people in two cars. A preliminary investigation revealed that the money was being taken for land registry.

Meanwhile, the case has been handed over to the Income Tax Department to conduct further inquiry into the case to gather leads.

Last week, SOG had arrested one Sanjay Sharma whose name had surfaced in a viral audio recording about horse-trading of legislators to topple the Ashok Gehlot-led Congress government in Rajasthan.

However, the SOG team said it could not locate dissident Congress MLA Bhanwarlal Sharma who is purportedly talking in the audiotapes with Sanjay Jain and Gajendra Singh, who the Congress claims is Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.

Congress Chief Whip Mahesh Joshi had lodged a complaint demanding a probe and registration of an FIR under sedition charges against Bhanwarlal Sharma, Gajendra Singh and Sanjay Jain who were allegedly discussing a conspiracy to topple the state government in one of the three audio recordings that went viral on social media on July 16.

For three Rajya Sabha seats from Rajasthan, the Congress has fielded two candidates, while BJP's two candidates have filed nominations. In the assembly of 200, the Congress has 107 MLAs, including six those who defected to the party from the BSP last year.

The party enjoys the support of 12 of the 13 Independent MLAs in the state. The BJP has 72 MLAs and enjoys the support of three Rashtriya Loktantrik Party MLAs.

The Congress has more than enough majority for the victory of both of its candidates
